King Arthur Chess

King Arthur Chess Set : King Arthur was the
son of Other. After Other's death there was no king ruling all
England. A sword had been placed in a stone by Merlin, saying that
whoever drew it out would be king. Arthur did so and got himself
crowned. This led to a rebellion be eleven rulers which Arthur put
down.
He married Guinevere whose father gave him the
Round Table as a dowry; it became the place where his knights sat, to
avoid quarrels over precedence. A magnificent reign followed, Arthur's
court becoming the focus for many heroes.
In the war against the Romans, King Arthur defeated
the Emperor Lucius and became emperor himself. However, his most
illustrious knight, Lancelot, became enamored of Guinevere. The Quest
for the Holy Grial began and Lancelot's intrigue with the Queen came
to light.
Lancelot fled and Guinevere was sentenced to death.
Lancelot rescued her and took her to him realm. This led King Arthur
to crossing the channel and making war on his former knight. While
away from Britain, he left Mordred in charge. Mordred rebelled and
King Arthur returned to quell him. This led to King Arthur's last
battle on Salisbury Plain, where he slew Mordred, but was himself
gravely wounded. King Arthur was then carried off in a barge, saying
he was heading for the vale of Avalon. Some said he never died, but
would one day return. However, his grave was supposedly discovered at
Glastonbury in the reign of Henry II (1154-89).

Hood has been retold by many generations. Is your first Robin Hood
from the classic illustrations and text Howard Pyle's 1883 "The Merry
Adventures of Robin Hood" which is still in print to this day? Did you
first encounter the tale with the swashbuckling Errol Flynn film "The
Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)" or the Sean Connery and Audrey
Hepburn's film "Robin and Marian" released in 1976 or Disney's
live-action version "The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrier Men" in
1952, or even the 1973 animated classic or even Kevin Costner's 1991
film? Every one will have their own favorite, the legend of the folk
hero remains ever popular.
The story is older than you might think. The 1226
court records which tell of a man named Robert Hood who was seized by
the Sheriff of York, this Sheriff later became the Sheriff of
Nottingham. The court rolls of Wakefield, England in 1316 and 1317
record Robert Hood and his wife Mat Hilda, this has been also
speculated as the original Robin Hood. The poem "A Guest of Robyn
Hood" was printed sometime around 1510, which tell many of the
adventures in the modern tale. We will never know which are the true
facts, however it is the spirit of freedom and independence that has
endeared him to many generations.
Hand Painted Finish means that the chess theme is
carefully researched to be as historically accurate as possible and
painted with acrylic paints by experienced artists. The king pcs on
the set is 3 1/2" tall.
